To reduce to control; to subdue. Obs.
2.
To relinquish or give up with the intent of never again resuming or claiming one's rights or interests in; to give up absolutely; to desert, as a person to whom one owes a duty, allegiance, or the like.
3.
To give over or surrender utterly; as, to abandon a position to the enemy; to abandon a theory.
4.
To give (oneself) up without attempt at self-control; to yield (oneself) unrestrainedly; as, to abandon oneself to grief; to abandon oneself to vice.
5.
